Australia and South Africa will both be looking to get back to winning ways after chastening defeats to Argentina and New Zealand in Round Two of the 2022 Rugby Championship respectively.
Australia has won their last two Tests against South Africa, both in the Rugby Championship. The last time the Wallabies won more than two successive games against the Springboks, was a five-game stretch from September 2010 to September 2012.
- South Africa is winless in their last seven Tests against the Wallabies in Australia (D1 L6), with all but one of those games decided by a margin of six points or fewer.
- The Springboks’ last win against the Wallabies in Australia came in September 2013 in Brisbane (38-12).
- This will be the third time that Australia has played a Test in Adelaide and the first time since July 2004.
- The Wallabies have won both of their previous Tests in the South Australian capital (29-14 vs Pacific Islanders in 2004, 142-0 vs Namibia in 2003).
- South Africa has lost four of their last six Tests in The Rugby Championship, including a 23-35 loss to New Zealand in the second round of the 2022 tournament.
- The Boks have only lost one of their eight games in the tournament before that six-game span (W6 D1).
- South Africa has won three of their last four Test matches played outside the Republic, including a 31-29 win over New Zealand in their most recent game in Australia.
- The Bokke have only won four Tests down under since Tri-Nations/The Rugby Championship started in 1996 (five since readmission in 1992).
Players to watch:
- Siya Kolisi will move ahead of Jean de Villiers (37 Tests) this weekend to become the second-most capped Springboks captain in Adelaide.
- Lukhanyo Am made four line breaks against the All Blacks in Round Two at Ellis Park, the most by any Springboks player in a match since Damian Willemse (4) versus Canada in 2019. The last player from any nation to make more in a Rugby Championship/Tri-Nations match was Samu Kerevi against Argentina in 2016.

30.00: YELLOW CARD! Tom Wright is off for a cynical foul. Wright was miles offside when he tackled Vermeulen after the No 8 took a quick-tap penalty. Boks opted for another scrum. 10-3
32.00: Massive scrum by the hosts’ front row to win a scrum penalty after the opposition angled in. Reece Hodge cleared to his 22.
36.00: Several more penalties set up the Boks on the Aussies’ line. The ref warns Slipper again. Boks go to the corner again.
38.00: Marika Koroibete smashes Makazole Mapimpi in the air to knock the Bok speedster into touch. Mapimpi lost the ball forward in contact to give the Wallabies a 5m scrum on their line.
40.00: YELLOW CARD! Faf de Klerk is ludicrously sent to the sin bin for trying to knock the ball out of Nic White’s hands. The scrumhalf touched White’s face and the Wallaby 9 fell to the ground like Bruno Fernandes. A shoddy call from referee Paul Williams, who is having another shocker. 10-3
