The Australian Rugby Union has announced that the inaugural Australian Provincial Competition (APC) will be played in a September/October window next year.

ARU Managing Director Gary Flowers says the window has been agreed by the ARU and all four Unions participating in the tournament.

Mr Flowers said due consideration was given to the agreed option and a possible June/July window, but there was more common ground with the later timeframe.

“All parties can now plan more effectively in relation to both the Tooheys New Super 14 and the APC.”

“There are some additional advantages regarding the Qantas Wallabies end of year tour from the ARU perspective, while this window minimizes the impact on Premier club competitions.”

“The Western Force are seeking international matches immediately after the Super 14 concludes and the ARU is examining options from the Asia Pacific Region.”

Mr Flowers emphasized that the ARU remains committed to an independent consultative process to determine the future composition of an elite professional competition beyond 2006.
