Bakkies Botha saga continues

For the past few weeks we have been reporting on a deal that Toulon say they have with Bakkies Botha.

The French club say that they have a contract with Botha for three months with an option for two years.

The Bulls however say that Bakkies is going nowhere and that they have a contract with Bakkies which runs until 2011.

Somewhere, someone is telling fibs.

Adding to the mystery is that on Monday Toulon put a notice on their website stating that Bakkies “is expected to arrive in Toulon on February 26.” (today)

The Club goes on to list all of Bakkies’ achievements with South African teams –

“Measuring 2.02m for 120kg, “Bakkies” has 45 selections with the Boks, 61 matches in the Super 12 – Super 14 (under the colours of the Bulls) and 48 Currie Cup matches (in the colors of the Falcons then Blue Bulls).”

Clearly they can only be speaking about the Bakkies Botha that plays for the Bulls and the Springboks.

“The South African second row, winner of the 2007 World Cup, joins his compatriot Victor Matfield in the red and black shirt.” the site says.

The Bulls on the other hand maintain that Bakkies is staying with them and that Toulon have their facts wrong.

As more developments appear we will keep you informed.
