The Bulls are waiting in anticipation for the outcome of a set of fitness tests on Friday, as two of their key players continue their race against time to be fit for the Super 14 Round One match against the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.
Fly-half Derick Hougaard and tighthead prop Danie Thiart will both have to undergo fitness tests on Friday, following injury setbacks the two suffered at training earlier this week.
Hougaard is struggling with a groin strain, while Thiart damaged his elbow ligament at training earlier in the week.
Although both were named in the team to face the Sharks, they remained on the doubtful list on Thursday.
The Bulls have an early morning captain’s run and fitness tests scheduled for Friday, when the fate of the duo will be determined.
If Hougaard is ruled out the Bulls have in Morn’ Steyn a very able replacement, with some pundits actually believing that Steyn is the better option anyway.
Former South African Under-21 prop Werner Kruger has been training in the place on Thiart and should take his place.
