Wallabies and Waratahs fullback Kurtley Beale has won the John Eales Award which is the award for the top Australian rugby player of the year.

Twenty-two-year old Beale picked up 127 votes to scoop the award on Thursday.

Beale beat hooker Stephen Moore by five votes and voting was done by all 22 members of the match-day squad in each Wallaby test over the past year.

The John Eales award is named after the 55-test former Australia captain who was the last captain to win a TriNations which was a decade ago.

The rookie award was won by Brumbies Brumbies utility back Pat McCabe who has made a name at centre for the Wallabies in recent matches.

Thirty-five-year-old back rower Radike Samo was awarded the try of the year after he made a 60-meter solo effort against New Zealand last Saturday in Australia’s 25-20 TriNations victory.
