Big Joe gets a chance

Kobus van der Merwe has included Springbok Joe van Niekerk in his Stormers side for their clash against the Reds on Saturday in Cape Town.

Van Niekerk gets his chance as the form number eight, Justin Melck, sits out with a back injury.

In the other change, JD Moller returns from a rest weekend to reclaim his number one jersey. Schalk Ferreira, who filled the jersey against the Blues, can feel aggrieved, after a good performance.

He sits on the bench, along with Springbok prop Eddie Andrews, who is returning from injury.

Van der Merwe has warned that the Reds are not to be under-estimated.

“The Cheetahs under-estimated them, and attempted to run all their ball, which led to their loss.

“There is no doubt that the Reds can play, and we will have to stick to our structures to put ourselves in a position to beat them.”
