The Blue Bulls have announced that Bongi Mbonambi will miss their Currie Cup clash against the Golden Lions this weekend on Saturday.

Mbonambi injured his knee playing against Western Province in the Currie Cup on Saturday.

Blue Bulls team doctor Org Strauss says that Mbonambi will be out of action for two weeks after a small ligament tear to the knee.

On the positive side, Prop Morne Mellett has been declared fit, following a neck spasm and will train on Monday, as will winger Travis Ismaiel.

Grant Hattingh, Francois Venter and Ulrich Beyers will not train Monday due to minor ailments, but will be fit for selection.

Jean Cook (thumb, two weeks), Callie Visagie (ankle, three weeks) and Courtnall Skosan (quad, 4 weeks), could all still play in the competition later in the season.

Springbok winger Bjorn Basson has also been released for Currie Cup duty this weekend and will be available for selection against the Golden Lions.

The long term injury list is:

Basil Short (knee, 4 months), Francois Hougaard (ankle, 4 months), Cornell Hess (knee, 5 weeks), Deon Stegmann (shoulder, 4 months), Arno Botha (knee, 3 months), Pierre Spies (bicep, three months), Louis Fouche (knee, 3 months).
