Blues coach David Nucifora has made a few changes to his Super 14 rugby side as they prepare for a tough encounter against the Waratahs, who have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons this week.

Anthony Tuitavake returns to the left wing after a week’s rest, while Nick Williams starts at No.8 and Jerome Kaino returns to the No.6 jersey for the match in Sydney on Saturday night.

John Afoa suffered a corked thigh in last Saturday night’s narrow 23-21 victory over the Bulls but came through training to make the side.

Isa Nacewa remains unavailable due to injury and is expected to make his return against the Brumbies in week 9.

The Waratahs will be after an entertaining win, want to turn the media glare from their coaching ructions, after it was confirmed that head coach Ewen McKenzie will step down at the end of the year after a mixed start to the season and criticisms of his coaching style.

The Blues will be looking to replicate their early season form on Saturday after two close, but unconvincing, wins and two losses in their last four games.

Blues:

George Pisi; Joe Rokocoko, Isaia Toeava, Benson Stanley, Anthony Tuitavake; Nick Evans, Danny Lee; Nick Williams, Daniel Braid, Jerome Kaino, Troy Flavell (c), Kurtis Haiu, John Afoa, Keven Mealamu, Tony Woodcock.

Reserves: Tom McCartney, Nick White, Anthony Boric, Justin Collins, Taniela Moa, Ben Atiga, Rudi Wulf.
