Auckland Blues winger Ben Lam will miss the rest of the Super Rugby season due to an injury that will require surgery.
The Blues and All Black Sevens flyer ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and now needs surgery to repair the damage.
Lam did the damage in training and scans have confirmed the the ACL rupture.
Surgery means that Lam will be out of action for at least six months which also rules him out for the New Zealand Sevens and the Rio Olympics.
Blues coach Tana Umaga said that he was hugely disappointed for Lam who had made big strides in the off-season and had been in excellent form.
The Blues had already lost New Zealand U20s player TJ Faiane to an ACL rupture.
