Springboks coach Jake White has been lobbying hard over the past few months to get his number 10, Jaco van der Westhuyzen, back in South Africa.

van der Westhuyzen is currently under contract with Japanese club side NEC but Jake White has told the website Keo that he is certain that van der Westhuyzen will play in the second half of the Super 14.

Just where he will play is however still undecided. It is very likely that van der Westhuyzen will play for the Stormers. If he goes to the Stormers he will join fellow Springboks Bolla Conradie at No.9 and Jean de Villiers at 12 so this would be a logical place for him to join the South African Super 14 teams.

Playing van der Westhuyzen at 10 will mean that current Stormers No.10 Peter Grant will be relegated to the bench. Grant is currently sixth on the leading point scorers list with 46 points. The Stormers are 9th on the log so Grant has been one of their performers.

Only Montgomery and Hougaard are positioned higher than Grant in the points table.

van der Westhuyzen still has to undergo a medical test before he is cleared to play in the Super 14. The South African team that finishes past on the log this year will be relegated and must “give” 10 of their top players to the Spears who are scheduled to start in 2007.
