Boland rugby captain Conrad Burke has been dropped for Saturday’s Currie Cup rugby match against Griquas in Kimberley. This follows his disappointing performance against the Sharks in Durban last weekend.

Burke will now start on the bench with Clemen Lewis wearing the No 2 jersey. Centre Dewey Swartbooi takes over the captaincy.

Wing Lovu Sogidashe and No 8 Junior Bester were left out of the squad completely, while flanker Zolani Mofu will start on the bench after a disappointing start to the season.

Former Blue Bulls Vodacom Cup winning captain Carel Hoffman starts at No 8 for the first time. Stalward Justin Peach is rested on the bench to give former Lion Mark Harris a start at fullback.

Lock Frikkies Spies also makes way for new signing Grant le Roux to prove his worth alongside Rito Hlungwane.

Centre Cornal hendricks returns from injury to partner Swartbooi.

This paves the way for flyer Deon Scholtz to return to the right wing berth.

The Boland team is:

Mark Harris, Deon Scholtz, Cornal Hendricks, Dewey Swartbooi (capt), Alvin Hugo, Elgar Watts, Marnus Hugo, Carel Hoffman, Wendal Wehr, Angelo Brinkhuys, Rito Hlungwane, Grant le Roux, Kobie Adriaanse, Clemen Lewis, Janro van Niekerk.

Replacements: Conrad Burke, Jané du Toit, Frikkie Spies, Nico Esterhuyse, Zolani Mofu, Hein Myburgh, Justin Peach.
