The Boland Kavaliers are in trouble.

After three heavy defeats in away  Currie Cup matches against the Sharks, Griquas and the Blue Bulls, their winning hopes against the Golden Lions at Wellington on Friday hang by a threat because of injuries.

Flyhalf Elgar Watts is suffering from a knee injury and a decision on his availability will only be taken on Wednesday morning.

“At this point, his chances of playing are 50-50,” Boland team manager, Denver Pienaar, said.

Pienaar also revealed tighthead prop Jacobie Adriaanse will miss the match because of an ankle injury, while loosehead prop Janro van Niekerk is still sidelined – also because of an ankle injury.

Earlier in the week, coach Deon Davids was confident Van Niekerk would play.

And if this was not enough, flankers David Henricks and Angelo Brinkhuys were both injured in practice on Tuesday and ruled out of the Lions clash.

Hendricks injured his shoulder and Brinkhuys his calf.

With Watts doubtful, Justin Peach is almost certain to return to take care of the kicking duties.
