Flyhalf Ruan Boshoff makes his Currie Cup rugby debut for the Golden Lions in Friday afternoon’s match against the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington.

Boshoff replaces the experienced Herkie Kruger who is being rested.

The Lions want to see how Boshoff, a former Blue Bulls contracted youngster, will do at this level.

What they lose in experience with the resting of Kruger they gain with the return of the very experienced Doppies la Grange at inside centre – a selection that would also help to calm the nerves of Boshoff who unexpectedly finds himself on the Currie Cup stage.

La Grange’s return is in place of Walter Venter, who has flu.

There is a further plus for the Lions with Emerging Springbok scrumhalf Jano Vermaak who is back in the side after light concussion.

Both the Lions wings also get a rest. Shandre Frolick and Henno Mentz run on in place of Dusty Noble and Johan Jackson in the revamped backline.

Jackson has a slight knee injury but should be fit in a week or two.

Up front, Willem Stolz, who has a light shoulder/neck injury, is replaced by former SA Schools lock Johan Snyman who moves up from the bench.

The Lions team is:

Earl Rose; Shandre Frolick, Alwyn Hollenbach, Doppies la Grange, Henno Mentz; Ruan Boshoff, Jano Vermaak; Willem Alberts, Franco van der Merwe, Cobus Grobbelaar (capt), Johan Snyman, Nico Luus, Gert Muller, Hans van Dyk, JC van Rensburg.

Replacements: Derek Harwood, Kevin Buys, Wouter Moore, Todd Clever, Chris Jonck, Pieter Engelbrecht, Dusty Noble.
