Hearings took place into the citings of Highlanders players Daniel Bowden and Clint Newland, following their 23-15 defeat by the Sharks in a Super 14 match in Durban on Saturday.

Their cases were heard in Durban on Sunday by Sanzar judicial officer Adv. Dekker Govender and the outcomes were as follows:

Daniel Bowden:

Centre Daniel Bowden was cited for a dangerous (high) tackle on Sharks centre Riaan Swanepoel in the 35th minute of the second half.

Bowden received a yellow card for the offence and pleaded guilty to the charge.

The defence argued that a yellow card was sufficient punishment but the judicial officer imposed a one-week suspension up to and including May 9.

The suspension means Bowden will miss the Highlanders’ match against the Lions in Johannesburg on Friday.

Clint Newland:

Tighthead prop Clint Newland was cited for striking Sharks prop Tendai Mtawarira in the first half of the match.

Newland was found not guilty by the Judicial Officer and the citing was set aside.
