Former All Blacks fly half Tony Brown is reported to be in talks with the Highlanders for a return that would see him playing in Dunedin again in next year’s Super 14.

Brown,33, is currently playing his rugby in Japan for the Sanyo club after a season with the Stormers from Cape Town.

He is a vastly experienced and traveled player having played in South Africa for the Sharks and the Stormers. He was also part of the 1999 All Black Rugby World cup squad.

Brown has not played for the Highlanders since 2004.

“We certainly talked to him when he was back for the test (in Dunedin) about his plans and where he was at,” Highlanders chief executive Richard Reid told the Southland Times.

Reid indicated that talks had continued with Brown but ultimately the final decision would come down to whether Highlanders coach Glenn Moore thinks he will be an asset to the team.
