Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus will score brownie points with the Newlands faithful who will finally get their wish of seeing former All Black playmaker Tony Brown lining up in the run-on XV on Saturday.

Brown will be joined by scrumhalf Bolla Conradie and although the pair will be playing for the first time as a halfback combination Erasmus is confident that their combined experience will ensure that they will provide the Stormers with a sound service against the Highlanders in Saturday’s Super 14 clash at Newlands.

The regular Stormers halfback pair of Peter Grant and Ricky Januarie will enjoy a deserved break as they have been the preferred choices in all the side’s games this season.

Brown has now been with the Stormers for just over a month and has a fair idea of how to get the best of the players around him, and since he is a Highlanders old boy, he could have a few aces up his sleeve on Saturday.

Conradie, a Springbok No 9 with 15 caps, knows his way around the base of the scrum and can be relied on to relieve pressure when called upon to do so.

However, he’s main task will be to ensure that he feeds the Stormers’ dangerous backline in good time. If he is slow out of the blocks his side’s threequarters will easily be nullified.

On a personal note, he could use Saturday’s match to trump up his Springbok claims again, since he’s been out of favour with the national selectors since 2006.

Dylan des Fountain has gained the coach’s nod on the wing in place of the injured Tonderai Chavhanga, and although centre is his preferred position, he has the gas to run hard at the opposition when he is put into space. He’ll also offer the side a capable hand on the cover defence.

In the pack Schalk Ferreira comes in for the injured JD Moller and in the words of Erasmus he is a “freakishly athletic” prop.

He’s main job will be the anchor the scrums along with tighthead Brian Mujati and hooker Tiaan Liebenberg, who was named ahead of the in-form Schalk Brits.

Ross Skeate replaces Adrian Fondse in the second row and will partner Andries Bekker. Apart from the enforced changes as a result of injury, Erasmus will use Saturday’s match to field several second-stringers as he applies the rotation system.

This will ensure that his key players get a much deserved break and playing them off the bench will ensure that they maintain peak match fitness ahead of the demanding upcoming Super 14 assignments.

The Stormers team to play the Highlanders at Newlands, on Saturday, is as follows:

Conrad Jantjes, Dylan des Fountain, Gcobani Bobo, Jean de Villiers (capt.), Sireli Naqelevuki, Tony Brown, Bolla Conradie, Luke Watson, Francois Louw, Schalk Burger, Andries Bekker, Ross Skeate, Brian Mujati, Tiaan Liebenberg and Schalk Ferreira.

Replacements: Schalk Brits, Brok Harris, Adriaan Fondse, Robbie Diack, Ricky Januarie, Peter Grant and Gio Aplon.
