Brumbies captain Ben Mowen has praised the Waratahs as “outstanding” in their 39-8 Super Rugby loss to the Sydneysiders.

Despite the loss the Brumbies have an outside chance of reaching the play offs although as they have a bye next week it looks like they will need a bonus point victory over the Force in Canberra.

Mowen said that he was proud of his team and although they need to be more consistent there were moments in the game that made him proud.

“Obviously at the end the scoreboard doesn’t reflect a very close game but I can honestly say as a unit we’re very proud,” said Mowen.

“There were some moments of championships football in there, not consistent enough and the Tahs were very good tonight.”

“I think the first 30 minutes reflected our intent and it was probably some of the best defence we’ve had all year.”

“But the Tahs were outstanding tonight. All their big guys stood up and performed.”
