The Brumbies moved back to the top of the Australian Super rugby Conference by beating the Sunwolves 19-42 with a bonus point at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Ground.

The victory is the Brumbies fifth straight win against the Japanese side who they have never lost to since the Asian side joined Super rugby in 2016.

The Brumbies outscored the Sunwolves by six tries to three in the match so they earn a bonus point from the match at a crucial time of the season.

Three of the Brumbies tries were scored by replacement Connal Mcinerney from rolling mauls in the second half.

The Sunwolves enjoyed a near perfect start to the match as Hosea Saumaki chased a high ball which he caught and then sliced through the Brumbies at pace and scored in the first minute of the contest.

Hayden Parker kicked the conversion to give the Japanese side a seven-point lead after just two minutes of play.

The Brumbies got on to the scoreboard after eight minutes after Irae Simone found a gap in the Sunwolves defence but was stopped short of the line and passed to Pete Samu who went over to score.

Lealiiffano was successful with the conversion and finished the match having converted five of the Brumbies six tries.

Irae Simone added a try of his own at the end of the first quarter which put the Brumbies into the lead for the first time and the remained in front for the rest of the match.

A Tom Banks try extended the lead to 7-21 before the Sunwolves hit back with a Semisi Masirewa try. Hayden Parker was unable to add the conversion so the Sunwolves trailed 12-21 which is how the scoring finished for the opening half.

Replacement front rower Connal Mcinerney scored the first of his three tries eight minutes into the half from a line out and then rolling maul. In each of the three tries, the Brumbies pack formed after the line out and then followed with a forward shove that was helped over the line with help from the backs.

The Sunwolves scored what was arguably the most exciting try of the match as Semisi Masirewa sliced through the Brumbies with razzle-dazzle footwork before offloading to Jamie Booth who finished off the try.

Parker was back on target with his conversion but the hosts still trailed by 9 points at 19-28.

Mcinerney scored again for the Brumbies in the 58th and 70th minutes but the Sunwolves were unable to add to their score for the rest of the match.

Next week the Brumbies take on the Waratahs in Sydney while the Sunwolves travel to Cape Town South Africa to play the Stormers.
