The Brumbies will start the 2017 Super Rugby season without scrum-half Tomas Cubelli as he will have surgery this week.

Argentina international Cubelli ruptured his patellar tendon playing in the Brumbies pre-season trial match with the Waratahs at Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Cubelli suffered an injury to his knee in the 37th minute and the rupture was confirmed by a specialist in Sydney this morning.

Cubelli will undergo surgery tomorrow and will begin his rehabilitation with the Brumbies thereafter.

The Argentinean international will miss the start of the Super Rugby season as he begins his recovery.
