The powers that be at the Brumbies headquarters will hold urgent talks with Matt Giteau next week when he returns home because the NSW Waratahs are reportedly preparing an offer to lure him to Sydney.

Giteau’s contract ends this year along with some other big names like Stephen Larkham, Stirling Mortlock and George Smith

Brumbies boss Andrew Fagan says that Giteau is the major focus of the Brumbies’ three Australian Super 14 rivals ‘ the Waratahs, Queensland Reds and the Western Force.

“We know they’re all interested in him,” Fagan said. “That essentially has been expressed to me directly. With regards to NSW, their chief executive Fraser Neill has told me they’ll be going after Matt and going after him aggressively.

“NSW have been most open in their desire to find a player to fill that No. 10 jumper for them.

“But we certainly have a strategy in place to retain Matt and all of our profile guys.

“We’ve been in discussions with the Australian Rugby Union and have a process in place to talk to Matt soon after he comes back from South Africa next week.”

“We’ll put together a good offer and a compelling reason as to why this is the best place for him to play his rugby,” Fagan said.
