Crusaders beat Brumbies in Canberra




The final match in Super Rugby Round 9 is on Sunday and in Canberra where the Brumbies host the Crusaders

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Crusaders kick off and the match is underway.

2.00: The Brumbies kick and chase but they fail to release.  The first penalty goes to the Crusaders. They kick to the corner.

3.00: The Crusaders win the line out and use the maul. They suck in a few defenders and then go wide. The Crusaders change sides and continue the attack. The Crusaders keep the ball moving and go wide again to Nemani Nadolo who is stopped in the corner. The Brumbies turn the ball over and kick to clear.

5.00: The Brumbies win the ball from a line out and try to clear but the ball is kicked into another player and knocked on. Accidental offside. Scrum. The Crusaders win the scrum and Kieran Read pops the ball up to Nadolo in the centre and he crashes over. TRY!

6.00: Richie Mo’unga adds the conversion.

8.00: The Brumbies win a scrum on the Crusaders 22. They move the ball from side to side going through the phases and win a penalty. Cubelli takes it quickly and the Brumbies attack on the 5m line. They get the ball wide and Robbie Coleman scores. TRY!

10.00: Christian Lealiifano takes the conversion kick and nails it. The scores are level.

12.00: A poor box kick from Cubelli gives the Crusaders a 25m line out. The Brumbies do however win the line out and run the ball. When they get wide they kick and the Crusaders begin their counter attack.

13.00: The Brumbies turn the ball over and attack on the half way line. Matt Todd steals the ball at the breakdown and runs for the line – he offloads to Jone Macilai who races in and scores. TRY!

14.00: Mo’unga misses the conversion.

18.00:The Brumbies are under some pressure but Fardy boots the ball into touch. Did well too.

19.00: The Crusaders win the line out and attack. They play a couple of phases and then boot the ball. The Brumbies boot it back so the Crusaders kick it into touch.

20.00: The Crusaders keep the ball moving in attack and Nemani Nadolo gets the ball from a Kieron Fonotia break and he offloads to Israel Dagg who runs in to score. TRY!

21.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

24.00: Dagg and Nadolo combine on the wing but this time Nadolo is pushed into touch.

25.00: Mo’unga puts the boot in for a touch finder from a penalty and sets up a line out on the Brumbies 5m line.

26.00: The Brumbies sack the maul so the Crusaders have a penalty. They choose another line out.

27.00: The Crusaders win another penalty and the Brumbies get a final warning. Crusaders kick for touch and the line out again.

28.00: The Crusaders drive the maul over the line after winning the line out and they score. TRY! Codie Taylor.

29.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion and the Crusaders have the bonus point if it stays like this.

31.00: The Brumbies get some attacking ball but as they go down the touchline the ball is passed forward from Joe Tomane to Tevita Kuridrani. They get away with it but the pass to Scott Fardy is more obvious and that one is called. Crusaders scrum.

35.00: Penalty from the scrum to the Brumbies. They kick well downfield for the line out. The ball goes out near the Crusaders 22m line.

37.00: Problems with feeding and staying up see the scrum being re-set a couple of times. The Brumbies win the scrum but the ball pops out the back. Cubelli has to turn to get the ball but he does and gets a kick away. The Crusaders dot the ball down behind the line. 22 Drop out.

39.00: The Crusaders kick, chase and the ball goes into touch near the Brumbies 22.

40.00: The Brumbies win the line out and move the ball wide to Joe Tomane. He runs down the line but gets caught and at the breakdown Kieran Read puts his hands in the ruck – he felt he was legal but its a penalty. The Brumbies kick to the corner.

41.00: The Brumbies win the line out and use the maul. The Crusaders collapse the maul. Penalty to the Brumbies. They kick to the corner.

42.00: Brumbies win the line out. They use the maul and then go wide. The Brumbies attack on the 5m line but the Crusaders defence is solid.

43.00: The Brumbies go through 7 phases but Jarrad Butler loses the ball forward a metre short.

It’s half time.

The Brumbies kick off and the second half is underway.

41.00: The ball is taken into touch by the Brumbies. The Crusaders win the line out and kick. Nadolo chases and traps Cubelli on the 5m line but the Brumbies recover and clear the ball.

42.00: The Crusaders attack down the wing but a foot goes into touch as the Crusaders look likely to score.

44.00: Ben Alexander breaks for the Brumbies and shows some pace. He is caught and the Brumbies win a penalty from the breakdown. They kick to the corner.

45.00: The Brumbies win the line – briefly go to the maul – they go wide and Nadolo goes hard for Aidan Touia, misses the tackle which opens a gap for Joe Tomane who scores in the corner.

47.00: Lealiifano curls the conversion in perfectly from the touchline.

51.00: The Brumbies are playing a lot more to their strengths in this half. They go through 8 phases and get the ball into the Crusaders 22.

52.00: The Brumbies lose the ball on attack and the ball is kicked ahead. David Havili runs away to chase the ball, gathers the ball almost without slowing down and offloads to Cody Taylor who socres. TRY! Fantastic pick up. Taylor’s first double in Super Rugby.

53.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

55.00: The Crusaders have picked up the pace again. They put the Brumbies under pressure in their half. They kick wide on the wing for Macilai but the ball goes into touch.

58.00: Scrum penalty to the Crusaders. Mo’unga kicks for touch and the line out.

59.00: Penalty after the line out to the Crusaders in the Brumbies 22. The Crusaders call for a scrum.

62.00: The Crusaders win the scrum and attack. They attack on the left and then move the ball to the right. 7 phases on attack and they get to the 5m line.  On the 9th phase the Brumbies turn the ball over but they lose the ball forward.

64.00: The Crusaders keep the pressure on the Brumbies on attack and they move the ball to replacement first-five Marty McKenzie who gets over and scores next to the posts. TRY!

65.00: Marty McKenzie converts his try.

70.00: The Crusaders win a scrum in their half and clear the ball.  The Brumbies try to counter attack but the Crusaders defence sucks it up. Penalty to the Brumbies. They kick for touch but don’t find it so the Crusaders kick it back – Dagg kicks too deep so we go back to where he kicked it.

73.00: The Brumbies win a line out in their half. After three phases they concede a penalty for not releasing. Dagg kicks for touch and the line out.

76.00; The Brumbies get the ball on attack and they work it into the Crusaders 22. They go through 7 phases but lose the ball forward.

77.00: The Brumbies put the Crusaders try line under pressure but they can’t get over. They do however win a penalty. They tap it.

80.00: The siren sounds after 5 phases for the Brumbies. They play on but the Crusaders defence is solid.

81.00: The Brumbies get to the line but they hold on again and concede a penalty.

McKenzie puts the ball into touch and that is it. Crusaders win.
