Highlanders beat Brumbies in Canberra




The Highlanders have won their last five Super Rugby games on the bounce against the Brumbies, the longest winning streak of either side in the history of this fixture.

Six of the Brumbies’ last eight home games against the Highlanders in Super Rugby have been decided by a margin of seven points or fewer, with the spoils split at four wins apiece in that term.

32.00: The ref is having a mare, but he gets the call right when Dixon goes off his feet. Another lineout.

33.00: TRY! Lachlan Lonergan flops over the whitewash after the Brumbies’ pack bulldozed the opposition with the help of several backs. 10-14

36.00: A scuffle breaks out after a huge hit on Scott Gregory from Rob Valetini. That was a big hit. Hunt sold Gregory a hospital pass, to be fair.

38.00: The New Zealanders are back on the attack before the break. The Aussies did well to win the turnover, and clear; however, the ref’s assistant tells the ref there was a knock-on in the build-up. Scrum to the visitors.

40.00: A couple of reset scrums to end the half. The Kiwis win a penalty and kick to the corner.

41.00: The Brumbies win the turnover, clear to touch.

44.00: Hunt’s grubber beats everyone and bounces over the deadball line.

46.00: Hunt goes close to scoring from the 5m scrum, but he is stopped short. The Landers keep attacking, do not score, but get another penalty. Dixon opts for another 5m scrum, 15 metres in from touch.

47.00: TRY! Smith, who had not scored on Aussie soil for five years, has a double. Smith broke from the back of the collapsed scrum and darted under the posts. 12-19

48.00: CONVERSION! Hunt makes no mistake. 12-21

53.00: The ref calls a forward pass against Simone, it seems all the 50/50 calls have gone against Dan McKellar’s men.

56.00: TRY! Billy Harmon scores after a well-worked forwards move from a lineout. 12-26

58.00: MISS! Hunt cannot add the two points. 12-21

62.00: It’s all Highlanders, the Brumbies have lost their spirit, and are looking for the hooter to put them out of their misery.

68.00: Rory Scott – finally – wins the Brumbies a penalty at the ruck.

72.00: Time is winding down in Aus, the Kiwis want one more try to make sure of their five points.
