Brumbies beat Hurricanes in Canberra

The Brumbies have won seven of their last nine regular-season games against the Hurricanes in Super Rugby (L2), including a 12-10 win in Round 4, 2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman.

The Brumbies have won their last five regular-season Super Rugby games at home against the Hurricanes. The Wellington side last lost in Canberra in Round 10 of the 2010 campaign (23-13).

  • Dan McKellar’s side has won 15 of their last 17 Super Rugby games at home (L2), including their last four on the bounce.
  • Three of the Brumbies’ four home wins this season have come by margins of no greater than seven points.
  • The ACT franchise has won two of their last three Super Rugby games against New Zealand opponents (L1), including a 28-17 win over the Highlanders in Round 10 of this season. They will be searching for back-to-back wins in such fixtures for the first time since April 2014.
  • The Hurricanes have won their last four Super Rugby games on the bounce. This is more than they had won in their previous eight games (W3, L5).
  • The last time the Canes won more than four games in succession, was a five-game streak from July to August in 2020.
  • The Wellington team has won 20 of their last 22 Super Rugby games against teams from Australia. Both of their two defeats have, however, been against the fellow capital side.
  • McKellar’s men have won 66 turnovers, the most of any team, and 10 more than the Hurricanes (56).
  • Jason Holland’s charges have made 30 dominant carries per game, the most of any team in the competition, and 12 per game more than last-ranked Brumbies (18).

  • Lachlan Lonergan has a try in four of his last six Super Rugby games, including three in his last four starts.
  • Tom Banks returns after being out for four weeks, he has three tries and two assists.
  • Jordie Barrett has made 19 offloads, the most of any player, while no Brumbies player has made more than five.
  • Salesi Rayasi has scored 13 tries in 23 Super Rugby games for the Hurricanes.

43.00: TRY! Salesi Rayasi collects the ball on the bounce off the back of an overthrown lineout. The winger goes route one through a weak Lolesio tackle as well as slipping Sefo Kautai’s attempt to run away under the posts. It is the flyer’s 14 Super Rugby try in 24 matches. 16-18

53.00: TRY! A sublime linebreak by Irae Simone, who sold an outrageous dummy to ghost through the Hurricanes, set up Brown for the score. Simone made the break, drew the defender before playing the supporting Tom Wright. Wright got smothered, but the winger stood up in the tackle, andf waited for support in the form of Brown. Brown stepped inside Barrett to score next to the sticks. 26.20
