Brumbies beat Hurricanes in Canberra

The Brumbies will be the first Australian Super Rugby team to play in the new Super Rugby format when they host last year’s Super Rugby finalists the Hurricanes.

4.00: The Hurricanes are awarded a penalty. Beauden Barrett takes the kick and nails it. The Hurricanes lead.

8.00: The Brumbies attack from deep in their half after Joe Tomane makes a break. The Brumbies work the ball up to the Hurricanes 22. The Brumbies win a penalty inside the Hurricanes 22. Christian Lealiifano takes a shot.

9.00: Lealiifano slots the penalty and the scores are level.

15.00: The Brumbies go through the phases on attack in the Hurricanes half. They work the ball into the Hurricanes 22 and use the pick and go and Tevita Kuridrani powers his way over with assistance from his team-mates. TRY!

16.00; Lealiifano slots the conversion.

21.00: The Brumbies are keeping the Hurricanes pinned back on their 22m line.  The Hurricnes win a scrum and try to run the ball out of their 22. They make about 10m and win a penalty from the breakdown. They kick for touch and set up a line out in the Brumbies half.

24.00: The Brumbies concede a penalty at the breakdown again. They get a warning from referee Andrew Lees. Barrett takes a shot at the posts for the penalty but misses.

26.00: “Next one is in the bin” the Brumbies are told after another offside at the breakdown. The Hurricanes take the line out but the Brumbies turn the ball over and Henry Speight puts in a huge kick and Barrett has to chase and dot the ball down setting up a 5m scrum.

27.0: The Brumbies win the scrum and Tomas Cubelli slips through and scores. TRY!

28.00: Lealiifano adds the conversion.

34.00: The Brumbies win a penalty so Lealiifano takes a well from well out. His distance is there but the direction is not. He misses.

37.00: The Brumbies catch the Hurricanes napping in defence by going to the front of the line out and Stephen Moore slips a ball inside to David Pocock who goes over to score. TRY! if it stays like this the Brumbies will get a try bonus point.

38.00: Lealiifano adds the conversion.

40.00: The siren sounds for half time. It is half time.

The half time score was Brumbies 24 Hurricanes 3 

The Brumbies kick off for the second half.

42.00: The Hurricanes slow the Brumbies attack and then win the put in for a scrum in their half.

44.00: The Brumbies get a rolling maul going and it goes at pace. They go to the backs and Speight is stopped short. The forwards come in and Scott Fardy goes over and scores. TRY!

46.00: Lealiifano takes the conversion kick and nails it. Four tries to none so far.  Replays show that Fardy could have dropped the ball in the process of scoring the try and perhaps the TMO should have been brought in.

47.00: The Brumbies kick to the Hurricanes and Nehe Milner-Skudder races through the Brumbies and then passes to Ngani Laumape who shows some pace as he goes for the line and scores. TRY!

48.00: Barrett slots the conversion.  Is that the spark the Hurricanes needed ?

50.00: The Brumbies win a penalty in the Hurricanes 22. Instead of going for points they choose the line out.

52.00: The Brumbies win the line out, use the maul and then Stephen Moore slips off the side and dives over to score a TRY in his 150th cap!

53.00: Lealiifano takes the conversion kick and nails it again.

58.00: The Hurricanes are getting much more into the game. Brad Shields gets close to scoring but loses the ball forward. Willis Halaholo comes on for Ngani Laumape.

61.00: The Brumbies put the Hurricanes line under pressure but this time its the Brumbies who knock on. The Hurricanes win the scrum and clear the ball into touch.

62.00: The referee loses his patience with the Brumbies at the breakdown and sends Matt Toomua to the sin bin for 10 minutes.

66.00: The Brumbies win the line out and keep the ball in the forwards. They use the rolling maul and it races over the line. TRY! Josh Mann-Rea scores the try.

67.00: Lealiifano adds the conversion.

67.00: The Brumbies go over again. They Brumbies grab the ball from a bounce following a kick and Josh Mann-Rea races through center-field and sets up Sam Carter for the seventh TRY!

69.00: Lealiifano nails the conversion.

74.00: The Hurricanes still have some fight in them as they are playing the game in the Brumbies half. They try to attack outwide but Shields loses the ball.

76.00: The Brumbies lose another player to the sin-bin and this time its David Pocock who is off with a yellow card. The Hurricanes use the line out but the ball goes dead and the Brumbies get the put in at the scrum.

79.00: The Brumbies kick deep but the ball goes out on the full so the Hurricanes get a line out in the Brumbies 22. The Canes win the line out and they attack in the Brumbies 22. The siren sounds but they lose the ball. Thats it the Brumbies have won.
