Sharks beat Brumbies in Canberra




The Brumbies and the Sharks meet in Canberra for a clash in which both team’s will be hoping to win their first match of the season.

The Brumbies have won the last two matches and will be aiming to make in three in a row.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Brumbies kick off and the match is underway.

1.46; The Brumbies get the perfect start as they move the ball through the hands after a line out and the ball goes from one side to the other and Henry Speight gets it on the wing and races for the corner and scores without being touched. TRY!

300: Wharenui Hawera takes the conversion from outwide. He misses.

6.00: The Brumbies concede a penalty in the Sharks half. Lambie kicks for touch and the line out. He sets up a line out on the Brumbies 22m line.

10.00: Sharks possession is at 70%. They have the ball in the Brumbies 22 and they try the cross kick. Tera Mtembu gets the ball down in the corner but the TMO will have a look for a knock on. No try – knock on and a foot in touch. We go back for a penalty to the Sharks.

11.00: Lambie slots a penalty which puts the Sharks on the scoreboard.

14.00: Brumbies scrumhalf Joe Powell slices through the Sharks and gets them to the line. They use the pick and go at the line but are kept out. Scott Fardy goes over under the posts and scores. TRY! But wait, no the try is now not being awarded as there was a knock on in the build up. No TRY. 5m scrum for the Sharks instead.

19.00: The Brumbies are awarded a penalty inside the Sharks half. As they are playing into the breeze they kick for touch and the line out.

20.00: The Brumbies win the line out and attack in the Sharks 22. They go wide and have the advantage and then win the penalty. They take the line out option.

23.00: The Brumbies win the line out, use the maul and drive over the line and score. TRY ! Josh Mann-Rea.

25.00: Wharenui Hawera converts the try and puts the Brumbies up by 9 points.

30.00: Penalty to the Brumbies. Hawera takes the kick and nails it extending the lead.

34.00: The Sharks work the ball up to the Brumbies line. They have the advantage but Tendai Mtawarira drives over and scores his fifth Super Rugby TRY! His first against the Brumbies.

35.00: Lambie adds the conversion.

37.00: Penalty to the Sharks. Lambie calmly slots the kick and cuts the gap to two points.

40.00: The siren sounds for half time but we have time for a scrum. The Sharks win the scrum and Cobus Reinach boots it straight into touch.

The Sharks kick off for the second half.

43.00: The Sharks go through 16 phases and work the ball well into the Brumbies 22. They keep the ball alive and move across the field. 19 phases and they win a penalty. Lambie will have a shot.

45.00: Lambie takes the penalty kick and nails it. The Sharks lead after scoring 13 unanswered points.

46.00: The Sharks are awarded another penalty so Lambie lines up the kick.

47.00: Lambie strikes the ball well but misses.

49.00: It’s all the Sharks as the Brumbies are having to defend in their half. The Sharks are wearing the Brumbies down. The Sharks are however going to the bench to bring on fresh legs. Lewies is off.

51.00: With the scores at 15-16 Kyle Godwin is yellow carded for a professional foul – offside. The Sharks take the line out.

52.00: The Sharks win the line out and drive for the line but the ball goes dead. Brumbies scrum.

53.00: The Brumbies concede a penalty for collapsing under pressure -Leslie Leulua’iali’i-Makin. Lambie lines up the posts.

54.00: Lambie misses.

57.00: There is an injury break as Scott Fardy has an injury. The Sharks also have a penalty in front.

58.00: Lambie takes the kick and nails it.

59.00: Penalty to the Brumbies from the breakdown. Hawera kicks for touch to relieve the pressure.

62.00: The Brumbies build some momentum as they work the ball up and into the Sharks 22. The Sharks however turn the ball over and send the Brumbies back over the half way line.

63.00: Penalty for going off the feet to the Sharks. Fardy gets some more tape wrapped around him as Lambie lines up the kick. De Wet Roos comes on for the Brumbies replacing Joe Powell.

64.00: Lambie nails the penalty.

67.00: The Brumbies work the ball into the Sharks 22 where they win a penalty.

68.00: The Brumbies take the line out and go to the front. The Sharks stop the attack but the ball is recycled and Tevita Kuridrani scores next to the posts. TRY!

69.00: Hawera adds the conversion and the scores are level.

73.00: The Brumbies win a scrum in their half. They run the ball upfield but get forced into touch near the half way line.

76.00: The Brumbies work the ball into the Sharks half and set up a line out in the Sharks 22. Big moment in this match.

77.00: The Sharks steal the line out. They are slow to clear but fail to find touch when they do. The Brumbies counter attack.

78.00: Penalty to the Brumbies just inside the Sharks half. They kick for touch and take the line out. It’s scrappy but the Brumbies win the ball. The Brumbies go for the drop goal but miss.

80.00: The siren sounds and the ball is loose. The Sharks scramble and  Curwin Bosch chips ahead and Lukhanyo Am gets the ball and scores. TRY! The Sharks will win.

81.00: Bosch misses the conversion.
