In the first half the Bulls blew the Sharks away in one of the best performances that they had put together in years.
By the 30 minute mark the Bulls had scored four tries to the Sharks solitary penalty. Possibly the only fault one could mention about the Bulls was that Morne Steyn missed his first kick at goal.
Nothing went right for the Sharks and they could not get their hands on the ball. Moments after the Sharks made a replacement for injury Bismarck du Plessis came on and amid the frustration the Sharks were obviously feeling du Plessis went in with a spear tackle earning him a yellow and ten minutes in the bin.
The Bulls led at half time with tries from Bakkies Botha who scored two tries and one each from Gary Botha and J.P.Nel. Half time score was Bulls 27 Sharks 3.
The second half was also filled with entertainment and after 15 minutes of the half Percy Montgomery sparked a Sharks revival and although he missed the conversion, the Sharks were clearly lifted by the try. Another one of Montgomery’s conversions later in the game hit the post.
Two minutes after Montgomery’s try Andries Strauss ran half the length of the field to score a try that was sparked by the 19 year old Bradley Barrit. Albert Van der Bergh and AJ Venter also scored tries.
The Sharks did come back in the second half but it was a case of too little too late.In all the Sharks came back from 27-3 down and put in a magnificent performance scoring four tries in the second half.
With three minutes to play Morne Steyn went in with a high and dangerous tackle on Percy Montgomery. Steyn was sent to the bin for the rest of the match and with only 7 points to earn the draw the Sharks thought they could still be in the hunt.
However as the hooter blew referee Fortuin blew to signal the end of the match. The final score was Bulls 34 Sharks 27.
The match was filled with entertainment and in total saw 9 tries. The Bulls are still on track for a Semi final spot and the Sharks will now slip out.
The Bulls are now on 33 points behind the Brumbies (37) and both teams still have to play the Crusaders. The Sharks are now on 29.
