The Vodacom Bulls’ prop Rayno Gerber will be on the sideline for at least two to four weeks after he injured his achilles against the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington on Saturday.

Gerber will go for a sonar as soon as the swelling is down but the team doctor Tommie Smook is optimistic that Gerber will be up and running in two to four weeks.

The other players in the Super 14 squad who are able to scrum at tighthead are Werner Kruger, Sangoni Mxoli and Rassie van Vuuren.

Good news is that Gurthr’ Steenkamp (pictured)  as well as Akona Ndungane will play 20-30 minutes against the Lions and Heini Adams will probably be allowed to play for 40 minutes.

The young lock Hendrik Roodt shook off his lower back injury and will be unleashed against the Lions, but Chiliboy Ralepelle will have to wait another two weeks in order for his medial ligaments to heal.

A decision on whether Danie Rossouw will play against the Lions will be made later this week, but the new lock recruit Wouter Moore was cleared for 40 minutes.

The Bulls’ next friendly match is on Thursday when they play against the Lions at Wits and on Saturday the strongest available team will play against the Lions’ best in Windhoek.
