Griquas fullback Zane Kirchner will step into the vacancy left by Johan Roets after he signed a three-year contract with the Blue Bulls on Monday.

Successful negotiations between the Blue Bulls and Griquas saw Kirchner released from a contract that extended to 2008, after the two parties came to the agreement that it was in the best interest of the player to join the Bulls.

The 23-year-old Griquas star made his provincial debut in 2003 and has played over 50 games for the side.

Kirchner has played in a number of positions and brings great versatility to the Bulls.

However, he specialises as a fullback – the position for which he was selected to play in the 2002 Craven Week.

“I played fly-half as well as fullback and centre in my Under-21 days, but since 2006 I was used exclusively as a fullback,” he said.

“I have supported the Blue Bulls since I was in primary school and I am very excited about the new opportunity.”
