Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer says discipline and dominance at the set pieces will be the key factors when his team meets the Brumbies in a Super 14 match in Canberra on Saturday.

The tactics and game plans of both teams are open secrets – the Brumbies enjoy a game of continuity and phases, while the Bulls enjoy a more structured approach.

That is why it will be about execution when it comes to separating the two sides on the scoreboard.

“It will be all about how you execute your game plan,” Meyer told this website.

“It is important that we put them under pressure in the set pieces and play a structured game.

“They will no doubt want to open the game up and run our forwards off their feet.

“They will obviously play down the wings’ channels, because they would have noticed how our wings rush in.

“It will be a case of who stamps their authority on the game, who takes their chances and which team has the best discipline,” Meyer added.

Meyer said that while his team has a structured approach to all games, they do try to introduce some variations to their game every week.

“Yes, we try to introduce new things, but it doesn’t always work,” he said.

“We do have one or two new things we would like to try. However, they take time. Also, we have a number of players who are coming back from injuries and we don’t have the continuity that we would have liked to have.

“Obviously we would like to bring in some new things.

“We have score three tries in each of our last three games, which few teams achieved. So those were three bonus points we left on the table. Obviously we would like to score tries, but firstly it is important to win the game.

“The bonus point is exactly that … a bonus,” Meyer added.
