The pre Vodacom Super 14 match between the Vodacom Bulls and the Lions on 2 February 2008 will be played in Windhoek, Namibia.
Sport promoter, Willem Strauss confirmed that the game will be hosted by the Namibia Rugby Union next year. According to Strauss this will be a great injection for rugby in Namibia.
There is a strong relationship between the Bulls and Namibia said Strauss on the Bulls website. “The Bulls have contracted Namibian World Cup players like Jacques Burger and Tertius Losper while many other Namibian’s like Kees Lensing, Neil Powell and Ruan Vermeulen have represented the Bulls over the past few years.”
The climate and underfoot conditions in Windhoek are the same as those that are experienced in South Africa. This will also be the first occasion since new Bulls coach, Frans Ludeke, moved across the Jukskei River that he will meet his former province.
The CEO of the NRU, Christo Alexander, said the match will be a huge boost for rugby in Namibia.
“Having the Super 14 champions and ABSA Currie Cup finalists in Windhoek is creating major excitement amongst rugby supporters in our country” said Alexander.
According to Barend van Graan, CEO of the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd, the match will further strengthen the huge support base of the Bulls in Namibia.
