After playing from the bench in Boland’s heavy defeat of 80-7 against Griquas in Kimberley last weekend, Conrad Burke is back to lead the Kavaliers for Friday night’s Currie Cup match against the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.

Burke replaces Clemen Lewis, who moves to the bench. The return of Burke, one of the most experienced players in the Currie Cup competition, is one of eight changes and a positional switch coach Deon Davids has made.

With both fullbacks, Mark Harris and Justin Peach, injured, Llewellyn Adonis makes his Currie Cup debut.

He’s back home after representing the Cheetahs in the Vodacom Cup earlier this season. Adonis also played for the Free State’s Under 21 and Students team.

Hein Myburgh comes in at centre at the expense of Cornal Hendricks who moves to left wing in the place of Alvin Hugo who has been dropped.

Up front, Davids has a complete new loose trio. Junior Bester, David Hendricks and Zolani Mofu come in for Carel Hoffman, Wendal Wehr and Angelo Brinkhuys.

At lock Namibian international Nico Esterhuyse gets the nod ahead of Frikkie Spies, while Burke takes over the No 2 jersey from Lewis. And at loosehead prop the experienced Jané du Toit comes in for the injured Janro van Niekerk.

The Boland team is:

Llewellyn Adonis, Deon Scholtz, Hein Myburgh, Dewey Swartbooi, Cornal Hendricks, Elgar Watts, Marnus Hugo, Junior Bester, David Hendricks, Zolani Mofu, Rito Hlungwane, Nico Esterhuyse, Kobie Adriaanse, Conrad Burke (capt), Jané du Toit.

Replacements: Clemen Lewis, Johan Roets, Frikkie Spies, Wendal Wehr, Danie van der Merwe, Lionel Cornelius, Ernie Kruger.
