Chiefs captain Sam Cane has admitted that they will have to improve their handling after they were beaten 13-26 by the Highlanders.
The Chiefs went into the match full of confidence having won their last seven matches and having led the standings for weeks ahead of the match.
While the Highlanders were worthy winners the Chiefs were their own worst enemy as their ball handling and passing let them down throughout the contest.
The Hamilton based Chiefs had a bye in Round 8 and have a bye next week in Round 12 which gives them time to work on their handling.
Cane however said that he would rather get back out next week and fix their handing problems than have a bye.
“For one reason or another the passes weren’t sticking,” said Cane.
Last week after the Chiefs edged South Africa’s Sharks Cane admitted that after the way they had played they were lucky to have retained the top spot in the standings.
Speaking after the loss this week to the Highlanders Cane said that they cannot continue with the way they have been playing.
“We have to be better, it’s disappointing,” said the Chiefs captain.
The Chiefs return from the BYE in Round 12 at home in Hamilton where they will host the Melbourne Rebels.
