Chiefs Super Rugby captain Sam Cane has admitted that his team were outplayed by a better team in their 45-25 loss in Sydney.
The Chiefs remain on top of the Super Rugby standings but the loss could allow the Crusaders to overtake them if they beat the Blues on Saturday.
The loss Chiefs was the Chiefs third from 12 matches and the Waratahs seventh win from 12 matches but it is the Hamilton side’s biggest loss of the year.
The Chiefs are the tournament top try scoring team but the Waratahs outscored them by six tries to four.
The Chiefs have now not won in Sydney since February 2007 and Cane admitted that they find it tough going against the Waratahs in Sydney.
“We know it’s a tough place to play over here and we knew the Waratahs would be desperate and they showed that tonight,” said Cane after the match.
“They outclassed us in pretty much all areas so it’s pretty disappointing from our point of view,”
“But you can’t take anything away from the Tahs tonight, they were on fire,” admitted Cane.
