New Zealand Rugby super star Dan Carter has endorsed Chiefs first-five Aaron Cruden as his successor in the All Black jersey for this month’s Test series against Wales.

Carter has moved to France and now plays for French club Racing Metro but has been keeping his eye on Super Rugby and his former understudy Cruden.

The Rugby world’s leading point scorer Carter says that Cruden is a natural replacement for the All Blacks as they start building towards the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Cruden is in a selection battle with Beauden Barrett and Lima Sopoaga who have also played for the All Blacks in the same position over the last year.

“I was really interested to see how (Cruden) would bounce back from such a serious injury and credit to him and the way he has worked and he has bounced back seamlessly,” Carter told Radio Sport.

“He was my pick from the start and he was in the leadership group and has been there for a couple of years now, and it’s his time to lead this team.

“We are spoilt for choice you could put any one of those three in there and they would perform and lead the team around the field,” added Carter.

Cruden missed the Rugby World Cup due to injury  last year but has been tipped for the starting spot this weekend with Beauden Barrett on the replacements bench.
