Catrakilis leaves WP to join Southern Kings

Western Province and Stormers flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis has become the first player to announce his move to 2013 Super Rugby team the Southern Kings.

Catrakalis had a brief stint with Racing Metro in France before returning South Africa, and had an outstanding 2011 Varsity Cup campaign with UCT.

On his way to helping UCT clinch the Varsity Cup title, he became the top points scorer in the competition, with a personal tally of 136 points.

Catrakalis then caught the eye of Western Province coach Alistair Coetzee who was quick to bring him into the WP fold.

Catrakilis has a unique awareness for the space around him and exploiting the space behind opposition with WP coach Coetzee saying, “That awareness is not something that is easily coached, you either have it or you don’t.”

Catrakilis has however struggled to get game time behind Peter Grant so the two year deal with the Eastern Province Super Rugby team should see him getting more game time.

“I’m very excited to start my journey at the Kings,” he told iAfrica of the move and said that he wa excited to get an opportunity to play Super Rugby.

“Yes, very much so! I’ve been waiting for this opportunity [Super Rugby] for a while.”

The young flyhalf said that he was keen to work with Solomons.

“I’ve heard a lot about him [Solomons]. I’m really looking forward to working with him and it’s great that he has confidence in me.”

“I am just looking forward to training hard and getting better under the EP structures.”
