Cheetahs beat Sharks in Bloemfontein

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Bloemfontein based Cheetahs and the Durban based Sharks have won four and the Sharks one.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Cheetahs kick off and we are underway.

2.00: The Cheetahs win an early penalty. They will kick for posts.

3.00: Johan Goosen takes the shot and nails it.

4.00: The Sharks win a penalty back so Tim Swiel takes the kick but misses.

7.00: The Cheetahs set up a maul 30m out and they drive towards the line. They keep on going and going and they get to the line and score.  Torsten van Jaarsveld TRY!

8.00: Goosen slots the conversion.

12.00: The Cheetahs get a free kick from a scrum. The Sharks get confused and try to run it but they are called back. The Cheetahs run the ball and then chip but when they get tackled they go off their feet.

13.00: The Sharks kick for touch with the penalty.

16.00: The Sharks go through several phases on attack but then get pushed into touch.

17.00: The Cheetahs win the line out and kick well upfield. They are caught offside in the chase so the Sharks have a penalty.

18.00: Swiel takes the kick and this one he nails.

21.00: Cobus Reinach snatches a loose ball on the half way line from ta line out and jinks his way through the Cheetahs and scores. TRY!

22.00; Swiel takes the conversion and nails it to level the scores.

26.00: Another penalty to the Sharks. Swiel slots it and the Sharks lead for the first time.

28.00: The Sharks are gaining control of the match. They attack down the wing but the Cheetahs stop them. The Sharks are looking more dangerous.

32.00: The Cheetahs snatch the lead back as they rumble the ball up to the Sharks line. They have a couple of strikes at the line and then Philip van der Walt scores. TRY!

33.00: Goosen adds the conversion and the Cheetahs lead.

38.00: The Sharks win a scrum on their 5m line. They kick for touch and clear.

40.00: The Siren sounds for half time. The Sharks play on. They go wide but get slowed down. The Cheetahs win a penalty and kick upfield.

The Sharks kick off and we are underway with the second half.

43.00: The Sharks are dominating early territory. The Cheetahs try to push them back but they knock on.

45.00: The Sharks have started to bring on their big guns as Willem Alberts comes on for his 100th Super Rugby cap.

47.00: The Cheetahs work the ball to the Sharks line. They go for the line and Lodewyk de Jager scores. TRY!

48.00: Goosen slots the conversion.

51.00: The game is paused as Stuart Berry comes in to report a late tackle on Tim Swiel by Johan Goosen so the Sharks have a penalty. Nothing in it really.

54.00: The Cheetahs are playing the game in the Sharks half. The Sharks are on the backfoot. The Cheetahs win a penalty and will kick for posts.

56.00: Goosen slots the penalty.

59.00: The Cheetahs try to attack down the wing but they get shoved into touch. The Cheetahs are still full of attack.

61.00: Trevor Nyakane is down and injured. He gets some help from the medics which holds up the game. He carries on.

63.00: The Sharks win a penalty as the Cheetahs are caught offside. The Sharks kick for the corner. MacLeod comes on for Reinach. Bismarck du Plessis is also on.

64.00: Penalty after the line out to the Sharks. They run it and go wide. The Cheetahs scramble and defend but the Sharks are awarded another penalty but the Jean Deysel knocks on.

67.00: Willie le Roux comes off with a little limp and is replaced by Hennie Daniller.

68.00: Penalty to the Sharks from the scrum on the half way line. They kick for touch.

70.00: Sarel Pretorius comes off for the Cheetahs. The Sharks have a line out in the Cheetahs 22. The Cheetahs win the line out but its scrappy. They just manage to clear the ball.

74.00: The Sharks win a line out. They set up a maul and drive for the line. Bismarck du Plessis gets taken over and scores. TRY!

75.00: Swiel takes the conversion and nails it.

76.00: The Cheetahs try to pin the Sharks back in their 22 but SP Marais goes for a big touch finder and sets up a line out near the half way line.

77.00: The Cheetahs win the line but the ball goes into a ruck and dies. The Sharks get the put in for the scrum.

78.00: Penalty for illegal scrumming. The Sharks kick for the corner.

79.00: The Sharks win the line out. They keep it in the forwards initially and then they go wide. Penalty to the Sharks. They will scrum.

80.00: The scrum is set. The Sharks drive for the line but the ball pops out. The whistle goes for a Sharks penalty. Goosen kicks the ball away so he is yellow carded.

81.00: The scrum is reset. The Sharks try to go wide but the Cheetahs defend.

82.00: The Sharks stretch the Cheetahs in the corner. Tonderai Chavhanga goes out in the corner. The TMO checks.  No try.

That’s it the Cheetahs win.
