Cheetahs beat Southern Kings in Bloemfontein

The two youngest South African Super Rugby franchises will fight it out in Bloemfontein on Saturday when the Southern Kings will get their first taste of an away-derby against the Cheetahs in the Free State Stadium.

We are waiting for the kick off.
The Kings kick off and we are underway.
2.00: There is a high tackle from Lodewyk de Jager so the Kings have a penalty. Catrakilis takes the kick but misses.
4.00: Another penalty for the Kings for coming in from the side. They kick for touch.
5.00: The Kings work the ball into the Cheetahs 25. They recycle through the phases the Cheetahs then turn the ball over and kick ahead.
6.00: The Kings kick the ball back and find touch. The Kings then poach the Cheetahs line out. When the ball gets to the breakdown the Cheetahs win the ball and run it. Piet van Zyl and Raymond Rhule race almost the length of the field and scores. Rhule scores and the TMO checks. TRY!
7.00; Burton Francis takes the conversion but misses.
9.00: Penalty again for the Kings. Catrakilis takes the kick and this one he nails. The Kings are on the scoreboard.
12.00: The Cheetahs win a penalty after Ronnie Cooke plays the ball illegally. They kick for touch.
15.00: Another penalty to the Cheetahs. Francis takes the penalty kick and slots it.
17.00: The Kings are slowly but surely picking away at the Cheetahs. The Cheetahs however are confident in their defence so look happy to defend.
19.00: Ronnie Cooke makes a break down the wing but gets pushed into touch.
21.00: The Cheetahs try to attack down the wing but the pass is forward. Kings scrum.
22.00: The Kings kick ahead but Siyanda Grey takes Raymond Rhule in the air so the Cheetahs get a penalty.
24.00: Penalty to the Kings in their 22. Catrakilis kicks for touch.
26.00: The Cheetahs start a maul but it goes to ground and the Kings win a penalty for offside. They kick for touch.
28.00: The Kings are pressing at the Cheetahs 5m line. They catch the Cheetahs offside and awarded a penalty. Catrakilis slots the penalty.
30.00:  Lappies Labuschagne makes a break and passes to Piet van Zyl who runs ahead and makes ground and sucks in a tackler before passing back to Lappies Labuschagne who scores the Cheetahs second TRY!
31.00: Francis takes the kicks and this one he nails.
34.00: Penalty to the Kings in the Cheetahs 22. Catrakilis slots the kick. Labuschagne has been replaced due to a shoulder injury.
38.00: The Cheetahs are starting to play the ball a bit more now. Previously they have been defending more.
40.00: We have time for a line out but the Kings make a mess of it. The siren sounds. It’s half time.

The Cheetahs kick off and we are underway.
41.00: Lodewyk de Jager takes an early knock and is now getting some attention with holds up the game. He is replaced by Landman Ligtoring.
42.00: The game resumes. The Cheetahs are on attack in the Kings half. They are playing at pace.
43.00: The Kings manage to slow the Cheetahs a little but it’s all the Cheetahs. 12 phases and they are at the line. Rhule goes for the line but is stopped.
44.00: The Cheetahs recycle and again and then Willie le Roux goes for the line – reaches and scores! TRY!
45.00: Burton Francis takes the conversion but misses.
48.00: Ebersohn passes the ball forward and the Kings get a scrum on the half way line. It has to be reset.
50.00: David Bulbring, Grant Kemp and Virgile Lancombe come on for Kevin Buys, Rynier Bernado and Bandise Maku. The Kings concede a penalty at the scrum and the Cheetahs kick for touch.  
52.00: The Kings have a scrum in their 22. They win the scrum and kick for touch to get out of danger.  
54.00: Penalty to the Kings. Catrakilis takes the kick and slots it from well out.
57.00: The Cheetahs attack down the wing. The Kings scramble in defence and manage to keep the Cheetahs out. They go again and initially the ref says held up but he goes to the TMO to check if the try was scored. No try. We go back for a penalty.
58.00 : Francis slots the penalty.
60.00: Luke Watson comes on for the Southern Kings and the crowd let him know how welcome he is.
64.00: The Cheetahs have the ball on attack in the Kings 22. They set up the maul and drive for the line. They go over but we have to go upstairs to check. No try. The Cheetahs get a scrum though.
65.00: Scrum penalty for the Cheetahs. They take the quick tap. They get nowhere but are called back for a penalty again. This time they go for the penalty. Francis slots it.
70.00: The Kings are playing the game in the Cheetahs half. They get numbers out wide but it’s slow and the Cheetahs are able to defend. The Kings then get blown for obstruction. The Cheetahs run the ball and then kick for touch.
73.00: Hennie Daniler breaks away for the Cheetahs. They keep the momentum going and drive over the line. They are however held up. We go back for a 5m scrum. They mess it up though by engaging too early.
76.00: Penalty to the Kings, they kick for touch. They win the line out and start the drive for the line.
78.00: The Kings are making their customary strong finish. They are camped in the Cheetahs 22. They get the overlap but are stopped for a penalty. The Kings kick for the corner.
79.00: The Kings win the line out and start their drive. The game has come alive. The Kings are all  set for a second drive and they go again.
80.00: The Cheetahs win a penalty with seconds left on the clock. The Cheetahs want to run but Heinrich Brussow kicks ahead and it goes into touch. That’s it. The Cheetahs win.
