Cheetahs v Stormers Super Rugby Rd.2 Preview

Super Rugby returns to Bloemfontein for the penultimate match in Round 2 as the Cheetahs host the Stormers in a South African derby.

The Cheetahs opened their Super Rugby campaign with a 33-34 loss to the Jaguares at home last week. They were leading 24-3 at one point but allowed the Jaguares to steal the match out from under them.

The Stormers on the other hand put in an impressive performance against the Bulls and earned a bonus point from the result as they scored three tries while keeping the Bulls tryless.

For this match the Stormers have made one injury enforced change as Leolin Zas will make his starting debut for the Stormers in place of Kobus van Wyk who has an ankle which he sustained in the 33-9 opening round win over the Bulls.

The 20-year-old wing earned his first Stormers cap when he came off the bench in the against the Bulls at Newlands last week.

Cheetahs coach head coach Franco Smith has switched Paul Schoeman and Boom Prinsloo around as Schoeman is in the starting line-up and Prinsloo on the bench.

On the replacements bench Francois Uys will be replacing Reniel Hugo.

The Cheetahs have played the Stormers 15 times in Super Rugby since 2006 and the Cheetahs have won 5 and lost 10 matches. That gives them a record of winning 33% of their matches against the Cape side.

At home the Cheetahs have played the Stormers 7 times and won four and lost three. This gives them a record of winning 57% of their home matches with an average score of Cheetahs 25 Stormers 22.

The Cheetahs have won their last three Super Rugby matches in Bloemfontein against the Stormers who have not left the city as winners since 2012.

The Bookies have given the Cheetahs a 6 point start for this Match – with an offer of a FREE $150 BET. The Stormers looked like contenders for the South African Group winners position last week while the Cheetahs second half collapse shows they have much to work on. The Stormers should win this by 8.

This Match will be shown on TV in NZ, Aus, SA and in the UK on Sky Sports 3.
