A good training week has seen the Chiefs excited by the challenge that lies ahead this weekend when they take on the Lions in Johannesburg in round 13 of the Rebel Sport Super 14.

Chiefs coach Ian Foster said: “it has been a good training week for our squad. We have just moved to Johannesburg and the guys are excited about the challenge the Lions present.”

“They are a team that we are expecting to be physical and they will be motivated to play well at home after their off-shore stint. It is fair to say their team is further strengthened with the return of Springboks back Jaque Fourie this week.”

The Chiefs front row this weekend sees the two “Bens” of the side take starting spots with Ben May at loosehead prop and Ben Castle at tighthead prop. Simms Davison’s back strain sustained in last Saturday’s Western Force match ruled him out of this weekend’s fixture.

In the backs Callum Bruce and Dwayne Sweeney will combine at second five-eighth and centre respectively, with Richard Kahui not considered due to his ankle injury sustained last week.

On the reserves bench, veteran Chief Jono Gibbes will cover the lock position. He has recovered from a severe hamstring strain suffered ten rounds ago when the Chiefs played the Hurricanes.

The Chiefs team to play the Lions on Sunday 11 May at 3.00am (NZ time) at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg is:

1. Ben May, 2. Tom Willis , 3. Ben Castle, 4. Toby Lynn , 5. Kevin O’Neill , 6. Liam Messam 7. Tanerau Latimer , 8. Sione Lauaki , 9. Jamie Nutbrown , 10. Stephen Donald , 11. Sitiveni Sivivatu , 12. Callum Bruce, 13. Dwayne Sweeney, 14. Lelia Masaga , 15. Mils Muliaina (capt)
