The first match on Saturday in the second round of Super Rugby 2016 takes place in Hamilton where the Chiefs host the Lions of Johannesburg.

Both teams won their opening matches and the Chiefs victory over the Crusaders put them on top of the New Zealand Conference while the Lions victory over the Sunwolves sees them sitting in third place in the South African Group.

For this match the Lions have made six changes – three in the starting line up and three on the replacements bench.

Harold Vorster will partner Lionel Mapoe in midfield with Howard Mnisi moving to the bench and among the forwards the old KES pairing of Malcolm Marx and Dylan Smith gets a start in the red and white jersey.

Akker van der Merwe will wear the number 16 jumper and next to him on the bench is Corné Fourie while Fabian Booysen will make his Super Rugby debut should he get a run.

The Chiefs have made just two changes for their first home game of the 2016 season. In the forwards, Maama Vaipulu gets the start at number 8, with Tom Sanders moving to blindside flanker.

Meanwhile in the backs, Latu Vaeno gets his first start on the right wing, with Shaun Stevenson forced to sit out the game due to a minor shoulder complaint.

In the replacements, Japan captain Michael Leitch is expected to make his highly anticipated return to Super Rugby, while former Warrior Glen Fisiiahi looks set to earn his first Super Rugby cap from the bench.

The Chiefs have played the Lions 16 times in Super Rugby since 1996 and the Chiefs have won 12 matches and lost four. That gives them a record of winning 75% of their matches against the Lions.

The Chiefs have hosted the Lions on 8 occasions and in all eight matches the Chiefs have finished as the winner. They are unbeaten by the Lions at home so have a 100% record. .

The average score when the Chiefs play the Lions at home is Chiefs 37 Lions 18.
