Chiefs beat the Force in Hamilton

The first Super Rugby match on Saturday in Round five is in Hamilton where the Chiefs host the Western Force.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Chiefs kick off and we are underway.

1.00:Peter Grant kicks the ball into touch after the kick off. The Chiefs win the line and out Damien McKenzie immediately goes on the attack but the Force stop the move.

2.00: The Chiefs push the Force back into the 22 but then concede a penalty. Grant kicks for touch.

4.00: The Force start stringing some phases together as they press the Chiefs back into their half. 7 phases and they get to the Chiefs 22.

6.00: 12 phases and the Force are still banging away but they lose ground. 14 phases and Angus Cottrell makes a break but gets pushed into touch. The Chiefs take the line out quickly and kick up field. The ball changes sides a few times.

9.00: Penalty to the Force for collapsing a maul. Grant kicks for touch.

10.00: The Chiefs kick for touch but pass the ball back into the 22 so the Force have a line out on the Chiefs 22. They win the line out and use the maul. They go wide but the ball slows in centrefield and then gets turned over. The Chiefs begin their attack with Damien McKenzie, they move the ball through the hands and eventually McKenzie scores. TRY!

12.00: McKenzie misses the conversion.

15.00; The Force keep the ball in forwards using a maul in their half. They kick high and the Chiefs get the ball but they knock on. Force scrum.

18.00: Scrum penalty to the Chiefs. Cruden kicks for touch and the line out.

19.00: The Chiefs win the line out but they concede a penalty. Grant clears the ball into touch.

20.00: Semisi Masirewa makes a break for the Force in the centrefield. He is caught but the Force keep the attack alive. They get to about 10m and they win a penalty for side entry.

22.00: Grant takes the kick for posts. He nails it.

24.00: The Force set up a ruck in front of the posts. Alby Mathewson slips an inside pass to Ben Tapuai who runs in the opening Force TRY!.

25.00: Grant adds the conversion and the Force lead.

28.00: Marcel Brache has been injured so Albert Nikoro comes on as Damien McKenzie has a penalty shot. He misses.

30.00: The Force are showing lots of endeavour in attack. This time the pass goes forward.

Penalties conceded Chiefs 5 Force 2.

31.00: The Force lose the ball from a high kick. The Chiefs chip and chase and there is a race between Brynard Stander and James Lowe but Stander wins while taking the ball over the tryline. 5m scrum.

34.00: The Chiefs win the scrum and Michael Leitch fires off the scrum and dives for the line and scores. TRY!

35.00: McKenzie adds the conversion. Chiefs lead.

38.00: The Chiefs look dangerous on attack and they make ground but the final pass goes forward.

40.00: The siren sounds for half time. It is half time.

The half time score was Chiefs 12 Force 10

The Force kick off and the second half is underway.

42.00; The Chiefs go through the phases early on and they get to the Force’s 5m line but then they knock on.

43.00: The Force win the scrum and Masirewa breaks and gets the Force to the half way line. The Force keep the ball alive. The Chiefs turn the ball over.

45.00: The Chiefs get the ball to the 5m line. They look like they will go wide but Charlie Ngatai slips inside and scores. TRY!

46.00: McKenzie adds the conversion.

48.00: The Chiefs win a scrum in the Force’s 22 but the pass to Sam McNicol is high and the ball goes forward and then into touch.

50.00: The game is opening up. Execution still a problem for both sides.

53.00: The Force sustain some pressure from the Chiefs and then kick into touch.

54.00: The Chiefs win the ball but they knock it on and the Force have a scrum just outside their 22. They win the scrum and Tapuai kicks deep – too deep as the ball goes into touch. We go back for a line out.

55.00; Penalty to the Chiefs. The TMO is called in for a look at the high tackle. Angus Cotrell is yellow carded for lifting in a tackle and then landing on the player with his elbow. The Chiefs opt for a scrum.

57.00: The Chiefs win the scrum and spread the ball wide. The ball goes to ground but is recovered and Toni Pulu who has just come on goes over to score. The TMO is called in to review. It’s good. TRY! Brilliant hands in that try from Cruden. Bonus point territory now.

57.00: Mckenzie misses the conversion.

61.00: The Chiefs are really upping their game now. Charlie Ngatai gets the ball near the half way line and he goes through five defenders and slides over to score. TRY ! Great try.

63.00: McKenzie misses the conversion again.

64.00: The Chiefs are ripping through the Force who are slipping off tackles. James Lowe shrugs off three tackles and scores. TRY!

65.00: McKenzie’s conversion is on target this time.

68.00: The Chiefs chip ahead and Ngatai chases but Nikoro gets to it. The Force try to clear the ball but its charged down. Stephen Donald has come on for Aaron Cruden.

69.00: The Chiefs win the scrum but the Force get an intercept. The Chiefs chase and scramble but the Force pass from Rasolea goes to ground.

71.00: The Chiefs win a line out and Stephen Donald pops a pass out to Damien McKenzie who races in for his second TRY!

73.00: McKenzie misses the conversion.

77.00: The Chiefs attack again. The Force are slipping off tackles and its Ngatai who dives over for his hat-trick TRY!

Stephen Donald takes the conversion kick but he hits the post.

80.00: The siren sounds. The Chiefs have the ball on the line. Ngatai goes for the line again and he scores – TRY ! Four tries!

81.00: Donald takes the conversion and nails it.  Thats 41 unanswered points.

Thats it. The Chiefs win.
