Chiefs thrash Moana Pasifika 12-59 in a one-sided Super Rugby Pacific clash at Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland.

The Chiefs cruised to a comfortable nine-tries-to-two bonus-point victory versus an over-matched Moana Pasifika in the City of Sails.

The Chiefs have won 10 of their last 12 Super Rugby regular-season games against teams from outside New Zealand.

Furthermore, the men from the Waikato have also won seven of their last nine Super Rugby matches as they go from strength to strength.

Bryn Gatland, Hamilton Burr (on debut), and Emoni Narawa all scored in the first half to open up three tries to one 19-7 lead for the Kiwis.

Neria Fomai dotted down for Moana Pasifika as the Chiefs led by 12.

However, after the interval, the New Zealanders swotted aside the Samoans.

The Kiwis ran in six more tries to one to notch a half-century for Clayton McMillan’s charges in Penrose.

McMillan’s men scored 40 second-half points to five as the game became a rout.

Jonah Lowe, Tupou Vaa’i, Pita Gus Sowakula, Brad Weber, Alex Nankivell, and Tyrone Thompson continued the scoring as the Hamilton men ran away with the game in what was little more than a training session.

Joe ‘Apikotoa managed to cross in the final quarter, but it was scant consolation for the inexperienced and undercooked Pacific Islanders.

The Chiefs began the second stanza with four tries in 23 minutes to end the game as a contest

Lowe, Vaa’i, Sowakula, and Weber did for the opposition as the Chiefs made it 45-7 early in the final quarter.

‘Apikotoa found a way through; however, Nankivell and Thompson finshed proceedings.

Gatland added three conversions to his try (11 pts); moreover, Josh Ioane kicked four (8pts) of his own after he took over at first-five.

Both standoffs had a hand in several tries. Additionally, Burr, Gus Sowakula, and Weber also assisted in one of the best all-round team displays in this campaign.

Christian Leali’ifano assisted and converted Fomai’s 17th-minute try, but that was as good as it would get for the veteran playmaker.

However, Leali’ifano was also yellow-carded It cost Aaron Mauger’s men two goals, although the designated hosts also got seven during the 10 minutes.

But it did not matter.
