Coach Stiles pleased with Reds determination




Reds head coach Nick Stiles says that he was pleased with his team’s etermination to keep themselves in contention for victory against the Sharks.

The Reds scored late in the match to earn a 28-26 opening round victory over South Africa’s Sharks in front of 15,015 fans at Suncorp Stadium.

A new look Reds team trailed 13-16 at half time but outscored the Sharks 15-10 in the second half to snatch the victory.

The Sharks had a chance to steal the result back but Patrick Lambie missed with his final attempt.

“To win those tight games and show character like that, it’s what you build success off,” said Styles.

“In terms of combinations, this side has come together in the past few weeks, so it was pleasing to think we had the character and the courage to stick at it and come through playing some good Rugby.

“It’s a good lesson for us to learn, it’s round one and we fought hard and got a win.”

Next week the Reds play the Western Force in Perth.
