The Reds started off well with a try that was disallowed for taking a player out in the air. Only a few minutes later the Reds were over again, this time legally

Flatley missed the conversion but his counterpart Daniel Carter went on to miss his first three kicks at goal. Quite a few of the Crusaders players seemed to off colour and for all but the last 15 minutes when Latham went off it looked like the Reds were going to sneak it.

Too many time the Reds tried to go long in the line outs but lost the line out each time and this gave the Crusaders some of their only attacking opportunities.

McDonald, Gear and even McCaw had shocking moments where they looked like schoolboys knocking on.

The Crusaders looked tired in the second half and just couldn’t get it together and were behind until the 65th minute. When they did get it together they were on fire with try after try. Carter got in for two and found his kicking Radar that was well off for the first half.

Clearly frustrated, at one point Carter stood looking at the posts for about a minute after his kick went wide.

All of the Crusaders first half woes were quickly forgotten when they hit form outscoring the Reds 6 tries to two by full time. The final score of 21-47 shows a very different picture to what the game looked like. The Reds were rampant with Latham on and when he left they were reduced to rubble.

Latham and Mitchell were the standouts for the Reds but Carter’s last 20 minutes superseded all that the Reds did and he alone scored 22 to the Reds 21.

Crusaders now go top of the log and are still on track for another Super 14 title.
