Hawke’s Bay wing and Hurricanes star Zac Guildford will play for the Crusaders in next season’s  Super Rugby after Canterbury signed him.

Crusaders chief executive Hamish Riach has confirmed that Guildford will transfer to Canterbury which makes him available for the Crusaders even though he will continue playing for Hawke’s Bay in the Air New Zealand Cup.

Riach said: “This afternoon Zac agreed to transfer to Canterbury and, due to the media speculation around him, we have decided to announce it formally. We are delighted to have a player of Zac’s quality available to the Crusaders.”

Twenty-year-old Guildford, a Hurricanes player for the last two seasons, played a starring role for the New Zealand Under-20 side at the world championships in Japan in June.

Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder said: “Zac is an exciting player and has the right character to do very well with the Crusaders.”

“He has aspirations to achieve higher honours and has all the key attributes to make it.

“He has a great work ethic and is very down to earth. He will be a fantastic addition to our team.”
