The Canterbury side finished on top of the Super Rugby standings and have qualified for the final by beating the Hurricanes so they will host the winner of the Lions v Waratahs Super Rugby semi-final.
The Crusaders are the defending champions, beating the Lions in last year’s final which was held in Johannesburg, but this year they will get to defend their title on home soil against the same opposition as they did in 2017.
The Lions beat the Waratahs 44-26 in their Super rugby semi-final in Johannesburg which earned the Lions a place in the Super rugby final for the third consecutive year.
In 2016 the Lions travelled to Wellington but were beaten 20-3 by the Hurricanes. Last year in 2017 the Lions hosted the Super rugby final after finishing first in the Super rugby standings at the end of the regular season but despite this advantage the Crusaders beat the Lions 17-20.
