Crusaders beat Brumbies in Christchurch




The Crusaders have played the Brumbies 25 times in Super rugby since 1996 and they have won 17 matches and lost 8.

0.01:The Crusaders kick off and the match is underway. Conditions are great for rugby by the way so we should be in for a good game.

2.00: Both teams look to make a fast start but the Crusaders give away a penalty (Kieran Read) so the Brumbies kick for touch and take the line out.

3.00: The Brumbies win the line out but the ball is passed forward so the Crusaders have a scrum in their 22.

5.00: The Crusaders work the ball all the way down the field and into the Brumbies 22. The Brumbies turn the ball over and kick it into touch.

6.00: The Crusaders  win the line out and attack the Brumbies in their 22. The Crusaders get to the 5m line but the passing gets messy and the Brumbies snatch it and kick it upfield.

10.00: The Brumbies get a line out on the half way line but they knock on. The Crusaders play on but then they knock on too.

15.00: The Brumbies kick for touch and the ball goes out on the half way line. The Crusaders put the ball in and start to attack. After a couple of phases the Crusaders chip the ball for an up and under. The Crusaders regain the ball and get into the Brumbies 22.

27.00: Henry Speight is tackled and goes to ground. Owen Franks goes in with the shoulder so he is shown a yellow card. The Brumbies kick for touch and take the line out for the penalty.

29.00: The Brumbies win the line out and attack the Crusaders inside their 22.  The Brumbies get in front of the posts and win a penalty. They choose a scrum as Franks is in the bin. Michael Alaalatoa comes on for Ethan Blackadder. The Crusaders scrum goes down. Reset.

32.00: The scrum completes. The Brumbies win it. They pass the ball down the line but it only goes one phase and the Brumbies win another penalty. They take it quickly and Christian Lealiifano slips through and scores. TRY!

33.00: Lealiifano converts his own try.

37.00; The Brumbies have the ball and are on attack trying to make the most of their extra man. The Crusaders though win a penalty for going over the top. The Crusaders kick for touch and will have the line out. Owen Franks comes back on. Michael Alaalatoa goes off and Ethan Blackadder come back on.

38.00: The Crusaders win the line out and drive to the 5m line but the ball goes dead and the Brumbies will have the scrum put in.

39.00: Scrum penalty to the Brumbies. They kick for touch to set up the line out. The ball goes out on the 22m line.

40.00: The ball is knocked on at the line out which ends the half.

41.00; The Crusaders win a scrum penalty and take the line out option so kick for touch.

42.00: Harry Allan has come on for Joe Moody. The Crusaders win the line out. They go through a couple of phases and as they pass the ball down the line Ryan Crotty slips a pass to Sevu Reece who slices through and scores. TRY! 

44.00: Richie Mo’unga adds the conversion.

47.00; The Crusaders have really turned up for the second half. They set up a line out in the Brumbies 22. They win the line out and work the ball to the middle and drive Quinten Strange over the line to score. The try is awarded but then as Moúnga is about to take the kick referee Jaco Peyper calls for the TMO to check the try. Replays show the ball is lost forward so no try.

49.00: The scrum has to be reset.

52.00: Owen Franks comes off and is replaced by Michael Alaalatoa. The scrum collapses. Penalty to the Crusaders. They take the scrum.

53.00; The Crusaders win the scrum and go wide. Will Jordan goes for the corner – is tackled high by Toni Pulu. Pulu is yellow carded and the try is awarded.

54.00: Mo’unga misses the conversion.

56.00; Richie Moúnga breaks through the Brumbies line on his 22. He makes it all the way to the 5m line where the Crusaders get a penalty. They take it quickly and Will Jordan goes over to score in the same corner.

57.00: Moúnga adds the conversion this time.

59.00: Will Jordan almost gets a third but the ball is judged to have been nudged forward. Brumbies scrum. They win a free kick from the scrum and clear the ball into the stands.

63.00: Penalty to the Brumbies. They kick for touch and take a line out inside the Crusaders 22. Will Jordan is replaced so he will not get the hat-trick try.

64.00: The Brumbies win the line out but they lose the ball and Crusaders run it out of their 22 and then kick upfield – straight into touch. Pulu is back on.

65.00: Yellow card for Sam Carter for a high tackle on Ryan Crotty. Brumbies back down to 14. The Crusaders fail to find touch with the penalty.

68.00: Crotty boots the ball well downfield and sets up a line out deep in the Brumbies half.

69.00: The Brumbies win the line out and kick to the half way line where they find touch. The Crusaders win the line out and Reece slices through.

70.00: The Crusaders go through the phases in the Brumbies 22 grinding the Brumbies down as they have the extra man and Crotty passes out to Jordan Taufua who is open and goes for the line and scores. TRY!

71.00: Moúnga adds the conversion.

72.00: Sevu Reece intercepts a pass and races away to the line and scores his second TRY!

74.00: Moúnga adds the conversion.

76.00: The Brumbies win a line out in their 22, they run the ball and Toni Pulu gets the ball away to Tevita Kuridrani who runs in the Brumbies second TRY! Pulu made that one.

77.00: Lealiifano adds the conversion.

80.00: The Crusaders have a penalty. The siren sounds. They will kick for posts. Brett Cameron slots the penalty.
