Crusaders beat Kings in Christchurch

The Crusaders are back in action this week after a bye last week and host South Africa’s Southern Kings at AMI Stadium in Christchurch.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Kings kick off and the match is underway.

2.00: The Crusaders work the ball into the Kings 22 but the Kings turn the ball over. The Kings kick upfield and the Crusaders boot it into touch.

3.00: The line out is not straight so the Crusaders have a scrum. They win the scrum and run at the Kings.

4.00:The Crusaders lose the ball and the Kings run it into the Crusaders half. The Crusaders scramble and slow the attack. They go through 9 phases and win a penalty.

5.00: The Kings kick for the corner and the line out. They use the maul and Martin Ferreira goes for the line but he is held back. The Kings recycle and go again.

7.00: The Kings go through 8 phases and win a penalty. Schalk Ferreira has to come off for a concussion test. The Kings take the penalty kick for posts.

8.00: Louis Fouche takes the kick, nails it and the Kings lead.

10.00: The Crusaders put in a grubber kick for Mitchell Drummond to chase but Malcolm Jaer comes flying in and dots the ball down and save a try. Schalk Ferreira is staying off and Sti Sithole is staying on.

11.00: The Crusaders are on the attack and Luzuko Vulindlu gets an intercept and races for the tryline! He scores TRY!

12.00: Fouche adds the conversion. The Kings have a handsome lead.

14.00: The Crusaders look to hit back and they go through the phases on attack. They go from side to side and Nemani Nadolo gets the ball and slips through in the corner and scores. TRY! Excellent handling by the forwards in the build up.

15.00: Richie Mo’unga adds the conversion.

17.00: the Crusaders have the ball on attack and they pass the ball down the line but the final pass goes to Johnny McNicholl who races to the line and scores. TRY!

18.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion and the Crusaders lead.

21.00: The Kings have a scrum in the Crusaders 22. They put in a shove but the Crusaders win a penalty. They kick for touch.

21.00: The Crusaders win the line out and run the ball. They move the ball through the hands going from one side to other and Ben Funnell goes over in the corner. TRY!

22.00: Mo’unga misses the conversion.It looks like Louis Fouche has left the field and Elgar Watts comes on.

25.00: Penalty to the Crusaders. Mo’unga takes the kick and nails it.

27.00: The game is paused as JC Astle has injured his ankle. The game resumes as Astle joins the line out.

29.00: The Kings get the ball and go through the phases (5) but they lose the ball forward. Louis Fouche has passed his concussion test and is back on.

31.00: The Crusaders work the ball to the Kings tryline. They go over but there is a mass of bodies. The referee says he has seen the grounding but wants a reason not to award the try and goes to the TMO. No reason not to. Nadolo is the try scorer.

32.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

34.00: Penalty to the Kings. Fouche takes the shot but misses.

37.00: The Kings win a line out and kick and chase. The ball goes into touch and the Crusaders take it quickly and they kick it out on the other side.

39.00: The Kings win a line out and use the maul but the ball is lost forward.

40.00: The siren sounds but we have time for a penalty. David Havili will have a shot from about 57m (ish) out. He just misses.

The Crusaders kick off and we are underway.

41.00: The Kings win an early penalty. They kick for touch. The Kings lose the ball forward at the line out so there will be a scrum.

44.00: The Crusaders win the ball and move the ball up the field moving it through the hands. David Havili makes some ground in the Kings 22 and he passes back to Richie Mo’unga who scores. TRY!

45.00: Mo’unga converts his try. Edgar Marutlulle comes on for Martin Ferreira.

47.00: Penalty to the Crusaders. They kick for touch and the line out.

48.00: The Crusaders win the line out and and move the ball to the backs. Kieran Fonotia slips a pass to Johnny McNicholl who passes to Mitchell Drummond who scores. TRY!

49.00: Ben Volavola adds the conversion.

51.00: Out of almost nothing Edgar Marutlulle bashes through a Crusaders tackle and runs for the line and scores. TRY!

52.00: Fouche adds the conversion.

57.00: Sam Whitelock gets a warning for joining the ruck incorrectly. The Kings have a penalty on the 5m line. They kick for the line out.

61.00: The Crusaders defend for a prolonged period before the Crusaders turn the ball over and run at the Kings with speed and Jone Macilai goes in to score. TRY!

62.00: Ben Volavola adds the conversion and the Crusaders have 50 points.

66.00: The Kings get the ball into the Crusaders 22 and up to the 5m line. Chris Cloete dives for the line and scores. TRY!

66.00: Fouche adds the conversion.

72.00: The Crusaders work the ball to the Kings tryline after a line out. The use the maul but it collapses.

74.00: Chris Cloete is shown a yellow card so the Kings will finish the match with 14 players.

76.00: Nemani Nadolo bashes through a couple of defenders and the ball gets to  Pete Samu who scores the TRY!

77.00: Volavola adds the conversion.

80.00: The siren sounds as the Kings on the attack. The ball is knocked on and the whistle goes. That is it.
