Crusaders beat Rebels in Christchurch

The first match on Saturday in Super Rugby Round 16 is in Christchurch where the Crusaders host the Melbourne Rebels.

The Rebels kick off and the match is underway.

1.00: The Crusaders make a strong start as they attack straight after the kick off. After several phases Nadolo is pushed into touch.

1.23 : The Rebels win the line out but their Debreczeni;s clearance kick is charged down and the Crusaders pounce. Jimmy Tupou chases the ball but it’s Sam Whitelock that scores. TRY!

2.00: Richie Mo’unga adds the conversion.

4.52: The Rebels press the Crusaders back but the Crusaders turn the ball ovr. Todd gets the ball away and Ryan Crotty gets the ball in the middle of the field and uses his pace to get through the Rebels and runs to the line and scores. TRY!

6.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion. Jonah Placid has some on for Mike Harris

9.00: The Rebels win a line out on the half way line. They move the ball to the other side of the field. The Crusaders turn the ball over and they change sides.  Jordan Taufua sucks in three defenders and gets the ball to Nadolo who makes ground and offloads to Scott Barrett who scores. TRY!

11.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

12.00: Penalty for a high tackle near the half way line. Mop’unga kicks to touch for the line out.

13.00: The Crusaders win the line out and run at the Rebels. Crotty slips through and the ball gets to Alex Hodgman who crashes over and scores. TRY!

14.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion. David Havili might have injured himself in that.

18.00: The Rebels go through 8 phases pressing the Crusaders back into their half until they knock on.

19.00: The Crusaders win the scrum, Dagg makes a break and McNicholl chips the ball ahead and the Crusaders regain the ball and change sides where Nemani Nadolo gets the ball and scores. TRY!

Mo’unga misses the conversion.

22.00: The Crusaders (Dagg) dabs the ball ahead for Nadolo who runs down the sideline but loses the ball in the tackle with the tryline ahead.

25.00: The Crusaders flirt with the Rebels tryline again but they knock on 5m out. Rebels scrum.

27.00: The Crusaders win a scrum and they pass the ball to Johnny McNicholl who races across the field – real pace – and runs to the line and scores. TRY! Six tries.

28.00: Mo’unga misses the conversion.

30.00: The Crusaders are so far ahead now that they are taking off some of their bigger names. Mike Alaalatoa comes on for Owen Franks.

33.00: The Rebels kick upfield and catch the Crusaders offside. In catching the ball Nadolo does a roll forward and almost cartwheel without losing the ball. Impressive.

34.00: The Rebels win the line out and  Sefa Naivalu breaks and offloads Nic Stirzaker who scores. TRY!

35.00: Jack Debreczeni adds the conversion.

39.00: The Crusaders work the ball down into the Rebels 22. Mo’unga shrugs off three tackles and sends a long wide pass out and it goes to Crotty who scores his second TRY!

40.00: After the siren Mo’unga misses the conversion.

It’s half time.

The Crusaders kick off and the second half is underway. The Crusaders first half points tally is their biggest since 2003.

41.00: The Crusaders pick up where they left off by attacking the Rebels and pressing them back to their 5m line. The Rebels manage to turn the ball over and kick for touch to clear.

42.00: The Crusaders win the line out and set up the maul. They drive  towards the line – at pace – and Codie Taylor scores. TRY! Eighth try.

43.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion and the Crusaders have 50. Jordan Taufua has been replaced. Pete Samu is on. Paul Asquith comes on for Jonah Placid.

45.00: The Crusaders almost get through again but Dagg stumbles. The Crusaders continue the attack. They have the advantage but they don’t need it as Cody Taylor gets the ball in space and races away. TRY! Nine tries to one.

46.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

49.00: The Crusaders go on the attack and the Rebels just can’t stop them. Some fancy ball handling skills gets Pete Samu over the line. TRY number 10.  Reece Hodge is battling with an injury but the Rebels don’t have a lot left on the bench.

50.00: Richie Mo’unga adds the conversion and is replaced by Mitch Hunt.

51.00: The Rebels get the ball on the wing with a chip and chase as Reece Hodge runs down the sideline and and scores. TRY!

52.00: Debreczeni misses the conversion. Hodge has been replaced by Pat Leafa.

57.00: The Rebels get the ball on the half way line. Debreczeni chips the ball ahead for Tom English but Israel Dagg just gets there and pushes the ball into touch.

58.00: The Rebels win the line out and kick across the field for the winger but the ball goes to the Crusaders. The Rebels had an advantage so they take another line out.

60.00: The Rebels line out goes to the Crusaders who clear the ball.

62.00: The Crusaders break out after a turn over and Pete Samu races  down the line. He sucks in two defenders and could probably scored on his own but pops the pass out to McNicholl who scores. TRY!  11 tries.

63.00: Nadolo slots the conversion.

Matt Todd gets the ball 60m out and races for the line and scores. TRY! Try No.12.

64.00: Nadolo adds the conversion.

66.00; The Rebels attack in the Crusaders 22. Ben Meehan goes over in the tackle. The TMO will have a look. Held up is the call.

69.00: The Rebels win a scrum in the Crusaders 22. They go through the phases working the ball to the line. On the 5th phase Culum Retallick scores. TRY!

71.00: Debreczeni curls the conversion in.

75.00: The Rebels defend a number of attacks in their 22 and then work the ball into the Crusaders 22. They get to about 8m out and concede a penalty for not releasing. Try scorer Matt Todd has been named man of the match.

77.00: The Crusaders kick for touch but fail to find it. The Rebels catch the ball and run it down the line and  Sefa Naivalu scores in the corner. TRY!

78.00: Debreczeni adds the conversion.

80.00: The siren sounds. The Crusaders have the ball on attack in the Rebels 22. The Crusaders go wide but the Rebels close them down.

81.00: The Crusaders keep the ball moving. The attack ends with Johnny McNicholl diving over score his third TRY! Try no.13.

82.00: Nadolo adds the conversion.
