It is official. Team manager Naka Drotsk’ will take over the Cheetahs coaching duties from Rassie Erasmus when the latter joins the Springboks as a technical advisor.

Erasmus will join up with the Springboks after the completion of the Super 14 series, when he will specialise in analysing opposition teams and other technical analysis of the Boks.

This means he has three more matches remaining as Cheetahs coach – against the Reds in Brisbane this week, the Western Force in Perth and the Lions at Ellis Park in the final week of league action.

That is unless the unthinkable happens and a number of teams ahead of them lose form drastically, while they win all their remaining matches with bonus points, and sneak into the play-offs.

Either way, Erasmus will join the Boks in time for the mid-year internationals – against England and Samoa.

The Cheetahs confirmed Drotsk”s appointment as the coach for the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup competition – which gets underway in June.

The rest of the Cheetahs’ team management remains unchanged.

Drotske was captain of the Cheetahs when they won the Currie Cup for only the second time in the Bloemfontein outfit’s history in 2005. He retired after the Final and became team manager last year.

However, he has been heavily involved in the coaching structures as well and worked mainly on the set pieces.
